Island mode earthing arrangements: New Guidance in the Second Edition of the IET Code of Practice on Electrical Energy Storage Systems
Graham Kenyon, our Managing Director, has co-authored an article with Dr Andrew Crossland, Director of Advance Further Energy Ltd, for the latest Issue 84 of the IET’s Wiring Matters industry magazine.

The article looks at earthing arrangements for electrical installations that can operate in island mode (when the mains supply is lost) when they have a battery storage system connected. Importantly, it highlights changes in the earthing requirements introduced in the 2nd Edition of the IET’ Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems, of which Graham is co-author along with fellow industry expert Martin Cotterell.
Free webinar – Responsibilities for those in an electrical installation design role
On 2nd February 2021, our Managing Director, Graham Kenyon, is joining John Peckham, of Astute Technical Services Limited, to provide an insight into the requirements of an electrical design role. The presentation will cover the fundamental principles of BS 7671, and review the duties on some other legislation and standards for electrical installation designers.
The event will be hosted by Colin Penfold, of the Operations department of Defra, and Colin, John and Graham will be answering live questions raised during the Webinar.

IET Wiring Matters article on proposed changes to Section 514 in the BS 7671 Amendment 2 draft for public comment
Our Managing Director, Graham Kenyon, has prepared an article for the latest Issue 83 – November 2020 – of the IET’s Wiring Matters industry publication.
The article looks at the changes proposed in Section 514 Identification and notices in the draft for public comment (DPC) of Amendment 2 to BS 7671:2018.
Supplement: Electric vehicle charging installations at filling stations now available
Graham Kenyon, our Principal, has contributed to this important industry publication, which deals with the additional requirements for electric vehicle charging equipment installations at filling stations.
This supplement will be invaluable for those working with EV charging equipment at filling stations, and includes earthing performance requirements for Mode 4 electric vehicle supply equipment with an IT earthing arrangement.

The draft of the 3rd Edition of the IET Electricians guide to fire detection and alarms systems, the revisions to which are authored by our Principal Graham Kenyon, is now available for public comment from the IET web-site.
Comments can be submitted until 11 September 2020.
This comprehensive Guide is updated to accommodate the latest revisions of BS 5839-1, BS 5839-6, BS 7671, and Building Regulations Approved Documents (or equivalent) from across the devolved nations.
This publication is expected in February 2021.

The draft of the 2nd Edition of the IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems, which our Principal Graham Kenyon co-authors, is now available for public comment on the IET web-site [link removed as consultation closed].
Comments can be submitted until 10 July 2020.
This IET Code of Practice, which brings together approaches from various standards including BS 7671 to provide authoritative and comprehensive guidance on the subject, is referenced by the recently published MCS Battery Storage Standard.
